The tannic acid in red cedar causes the shingles to eventually darken and become blotchy. Unlike the white shingles, you cannot paint red cedar shingles. They have a poor absorption capacity and do not readily catch stain or paint.The shingles also cost more than the white shingles which may hamper installation.
One of the most common issues that tend to make a roof leak is an old or damaged pipe flange. A pipe flange is a piece of flashing that is installed around any plumbing or ventilation PVC pipe that exits through your roof. These pipes could be used to vent anything from radon to a simple bathroom vent. A pipe flange has either an aluminum or plastic base that is mounted to the roof deck and has a rubber flange that seals tight to the PVC plumbing pipe that exits though the roof. This rubber flange will dry out and crack leaving an opening for water to enter the attic.

Thermal resistance and sound transmission vary greatly between fiber cement products. The thicker/denser fiber cement products have excellent impact resistance but the thinner less dense products need to be protected from impact. Compared to wooden siding, fiber cement is not susceptible to termites or rot.
Copper gutters are very durable as they don't rust. It's not unusual for them to last 25 years or longer on a home.Copper gutters are available in several styles such as half-round, which looks great on historical homes, and the more modern K style. Half-round copper gutters can be purchased with one or both edges beaded to give the guttering more strength and add to its appearance. Most manufacturers sell copper guttering in 10- and 20-foot lengths, which are soldered together to avoid leaky seams and attached to your home with hangers or spikes.Some people prefer copper to alternate materials. Keep in mind that copper does acquire a green patina over the years. Some people like it, some don't.

Taking several weeks, or even months to develop, a wall or ceiling stain is probably not the result of a particular storm, but is a symptom of long-term deterioration of your roofing material.
